Art Available - Gallery 1

Hope by Ron Warford, 40' x 30 " Graphite on Black Board, Framed
Mr. Warford's work was selected by the Smithsonian Institution for a national traveling exhibition in 1973. He was one of the initial founding and teaching members at the Folk Art Gallery in Syracuse. His work spings from his imagination and is masterfully executed. Tel (315) 391-5115 for more info or to purchase. One of the presidents of a local art guild referred to Ron's work as  "master works" for their power and quality.

Strength , by Ron Warford. 20 " X 30"

Home is Where the Hearth Is by Jaws. This piece took 600 hours. Amazingly, to produce this the artist had to put the snowflakes  in first on a white fine piece of paper and then build everything around it. Think about it - this amazing work, and other pieces of the artists work can be seen at CNY Artists Gallery, which purchased this piece in 2013.

"Everyone wants to understand painting.  Why don't they try to understand the song of the birds?
Why do they love a night, a flower, everything which surrounds man, without attempting to understand them?
Whereas where painting is concerned, they want to understand."

Yes and sometimes this lack of something as in minimalism is the hardest to accept.  Is it possible to say so much with so little?  Or is there much more there and it takes a perceptive eye to grasp it.  Your insight is well taken Angelo.  Yesterday I spent quite of bit of time staring into the depths of a Ryman painting from the Abstract show at Cornell's Johnson museum.  I found myself strangely drawn in and unable to leave it immediately.  As I stared hidden blue shapes started to emerge and gave the impression of a dance movement.  If you looked to quickly you would not of seen this hidden gem within the darkness. Wonderful interview and video on Ryman at this link. Robert Ryman

MOMA has a series on Youtube about painting, worth watching.

The element of invention is in the artist, be it the combinations of color, space or time. Not discounting the element of "subject" or lack of.

The painting which draws us to participate, the elements of invention are at work therefore the enjoyment as viewer is satisfied therefore no explanation nor understanding needed.

Minimalist paintings are true inventions it is what isn't seen that made them great.

So very true....Rothko for me is about the void....nothingness....lack of,  but then again there is the color.  Sadly he killed himself....perhaps it was the void.

To me - there are paintings that are beautiful, and then paintings that me feel, or connect with something inside.  Then there are paintings that I don't understand, but as time goes on ,some of them I start to understand and then I start to appreciate.  There are some painters I don't know if I will ever like - like Rothko - I don't  get him - someone told me that if you stand and look at it a long time you get it - the movement or something - I looked but still don't get it - then again i don't have to
