Art Available - Gallery 1

Hope by Ron Warford, 40' x 30 " Graphite on Black Board, Framed
Mr. Warford's work was selected by the Smithsonian Institution for a national traveling exhibition in 1973. He was one of the initial founding and teaching members at the Folk Art Gallery in Syracuse. His work spings from his imagination and is masterfully executed. Tel (315) 391-5115 for more info or to purchase. One of the presidents of a local art guild referred to Ron's work as  "master works" for their power and quality.

Strength , by Ron Warford. 20 " X 30"

Home is Where the Hearth Is by Jaws. This piece took 600 hours. Amazingly, to produce this the artist had to put the snowflakes  in first on a white fine piece of paper and then build everything around it. Think about it - this amazing work, and other pieces of the artists work can be seen at CNY Artists Gallery, which purchased this piece in 2013.

Most Annoying Question To Ask An Artist

The most frustrating question I get asked as an artist is, “How long did it take you to paint that?” It’s a frustrating question, obviously asked by those with little artistic ability, and has no good answer. For the observer, it is an honest and easy question to ask, how else are they to gauge the monetary value of what they are looking at. But for the artist, it is not as easy to answer.

On one hand, there are all of the years leading up to the point of creating the painting.… Continue

The Real Gift Of The Magi

The greatest gift from the Magi was, and still is, the gift of hope. Whether you wish to believe the story or not, undeniably the story of the birth of Jesus Christ and the Magi has done more to influence history than any other singular event.

This is the pivotal point in history not only for mankind, but for art itself. During this time, only the higher classes where literate and most of the known world remained illiterate. If the story were to be told and spread throughout… Continue

First Nativity Scene In Live Art

Until the 13th Century, scenes of the Nativity were only seen in 2 and 3 dimensional art. It wasn’t until 1223 that Saint Francis of Assisi is credited with creating the first live nativity scene. Having recently returned to Greccio, Italy, from a Pilgrimage to the Holy Lands, Saint Francis desired to make his Christmas MUntil the 13th Century, scenes of the Nativity were only seen in 2 and 3 dimensional art. arleen fordock, part-time artist/ part-time public service

Anytime is a good time to think of volunteering at Syracuse NY or nearby.

Having worked as secretary/steno/typist in the past, retirement gave me opportunity to "jump" into the art area.  In retrospect, was in it along with working a "day job" as I did enter "ON MY OWN TIME" at employer and won in the "drawing" category.   In 2004 (approximately) I donated that piece to the RescueMission's auction, and it sold!!  Confidence resulted and here I am.   Founded "CNY Art Forum" in 8/08…

Mechanical Things - Yummm!

If Rube Goldberg were 1) still alive, and 2) looking for an apprentice, I'd be knocking on his door. Mechanical metal gear-y contraptions that do things make me happy.  Whirligigs! Weathervanes!  The "Perpetuball Motion Machine" at Salmon Run Mall in Watertown!

Well, my latest venture into making things doesn't really fit into the whirligig or weathervane category, but I have been using metal to make jewelry.  I love art because everything an artist creates is part of that…

About me

I am most intrigued by and drawn to those artistic styles that span the continuum from impressionism, expressionism to abstract art. To me, this is art that is not bound to reproduce life's visual experience, but rather, this is art that is free to represent life's visual experience with greater importance placed on mood, movement and composition than on accurate representation.  As an artist I can say that working in an…

TTP?

The Trash Transformer Project entered it's second year in 2010 with 8 artworks on exhibit representing the talents of 7 contemporary artists form the Central NY region. With a grant from the Cultural Resources Council, The Alchemical Nursery was able to provide these artists either $50 or $100 stipends for their pieces, and support their lifestyles while demonstrating our message in art.

The pieces included a diversity of methods including paint and ink on wood, mini and full…

Central New York Architecture

I have always loved the beautiful old architecture of Downtown Syracuse.

The downtown festivals and parades with their profusion of color and excitement are so much fun to paint! The Veterans Day Parade of 2008 is pictured here. Flags are flying everywhere. A massive US flag hangs over Salina Street, suspended by two City of Syracuse Fire Trucks.…

Regional Landscapes: Central New York, Thousand Islands, Adirondacks

I have been and probably always will be a landscape painter. I don't think there is ever a time when I am not noticing the landscape. Whether going to work, or to the store, or biking along the Erie Canal, I am always looking at the land, the sky and the water.

In Upstate New York, we are so fortunate to have such amazingly beautiful places like the Adirondack Mountains, the Thousand Islands and the Finger Lakes Region. I am always drawn to water and love to paint the ripples and…

How Virgin Mary Shaped the Art World

Since this is the Christmas season, I thought it would be a good time to take an artistic look at the Virgin Mary; for without her we would have no reason for the season. Perhaps there is no place in the world which has celebrated the Virgin Mary more than the city of Rome. You don’t have to go to Vatican City to find the Madonna--anyone who walks around Rome for any length of time can’t help but notice the more than 500 street shrines which adorn various buildings around the city honoring the… Continue
