Just back from our week at a cabin rented on Lake George. Brought one primed board to paint, anticipating that it would take awhile. I knew what I was going to do, and finished the first day. Had to find a Walmart with canvases, even though I hate painting on canvas and didn't have references for another painting. The landscape is completely out of my comfort zone, and the centered flag bothers me, but there it is. Also did a lot of swimming and finished 4 books. Have to love vacation!…

I am on "vacation" at Lake George, and have finally found time to paint. I brought two blank surfaces to apint on [wood, not canvas] and have worked vigorously on my jellyfish that has captured a mermaid. THe idea occured to me before embarking, and I did some internet research to get some jellyfish intel. I found some pictures of brilliant yellow orange glowing orbs, with whitish fluff underneath, which seemed to be a neat thing to paint. I looked at some other people's interpretation pf mermaids while I was there, too, just out of curiousity, even though I have done mermaids, and probably wouldn't base mine on someone else's.

I packed up my painting stuff, and my husband packed up all of his stuff, and off we went. We were almost here when I realized I forgot rags. We looked for garage sales, but no one out here was having any. I didn't want to fork out good money for new towels or anything at Wallyworld, but the owner of the cabin we are renting brought me some wonderful towels bespeckled with paint that he called "rags". The cabin is way too beautiful to paint in- so I can only paint on days when it isn't raining- but I am thouroughly enjoying the experience. My painting is six foot long by 18 inches high, and hopefully I'll finish it in another few weeksa or so and get it up on the site for people to see.

The other blank "canvas" is still blank. I know I am supposed to work on more than one thing at a time, but I don't, usually. When we went swimming once on an overcast day we looked underwater with our swim goggles at the spooky dark green water, rocks, and pale glowing skin of our bodies, and that was truly insprational, perhaps that will be where my next painting comes from....
The end of the addictiontag:cnycreators.com,2011-05-05:5906932:BlogPost:321012011-05-05T16:27:30.000ZIzzy Duggerhttps://cnycreators.com/profile/IzzyDugger
After months of working on the original pill bowl, building it up with every new purchase or doantion of pills, until it was huge, and having equally high hopes for it, it stayed in my den for a couple winter months. It then moved to the high school art room where I teach, and survived my students for a couple more months. Then the tradgedy with it melting in the car on the way to the show. I took it home, worked for hours, went to bed, got up again to work for another few hours. It was now vaguely egg shaped (as shown on the new images.) I brought it back in time for the show, but it collapsed again, and I was called in for emergency surgery before the judges arrived. I tried, and it was ok (a shadow of it's original self) when I left it, but I knew that the gel pills were permanently damaged by heat, and the bowl just couldn't support it's own weight anymore. When the judges got there they saw a pile of what used to be an interesting form. And the bowl made the whole gallery smell like a mixture of Vitamin C and garlic pills. And it was dripping Vitamin E on the pedastal. Obviously, the judges didn't pick it to win. They loved the idea, but couldn't choose something that so obviously fell apart. I was not shocked, although I had hopes that my other entry, the Sea Witch and the Ogre, would win, and it did not. All in all I was very disappointed, but have some ideas for next year. I do love to compete. My Pill Bowltag:cnycreators.com,2011-04-30:5906932:BlogPost:299372011-04-30T12:02:27.000ZIzzy Duggerhttps://cnycreators.com/profile/IzzyDugger
Unfortunately, my pill bowl does not exist anymore. I packed it carefully in a huge cardboard box full of packing peanuts, and put it in my car to take it to a show. It got hot in the car, where I had to leave it while at work. It melted. I was horrified when I opened it up at the drop off point and saw the devistation. I took the remnents home, and worked hard all night. It is no longer a bowl, now it is more like an egg with handles. I think I actually like it better now, except it had…

I took the remnents home, and worked hard all night. It is no longer a bowl, now it is more like an egg with handles. I think I actually like it better now, except it had to have a couple wire suipports, which I didn't want to do, and aren't very sightly. I wanted it to be made completely of pills and hot glue, but it couldn't supprt itself. But, as it will, art must evolve.Strathmore Art on the Porches 2011tag:cnycreators.com,2011-04-12:5906932:BlogPost:259382011-04-12T11:45:33.000ZIzzy Duggerhttps://cnycreators.com/profile/IzzyDugger

On a personal note, last year was my first atempt at being part of this event. I brrowed a 10x10 display tent from a friend, rented a U-Haul bc my husband's jeep wasn't enough space, and with loads of help from my husband I was able to get everything there and displayed. I went overboard- my paintings are huge, and the tent was small, but it was a nice day and my designated spot was at the bottom of a hill in front of a house, so I displayed my paintings up the hill so they could be seen from across the road as you went by. There were no conservative restrictions, so I was able to display ALL my paintings- nudes and all! We finished setting up early, then realized we forgot breakfast. When the cart across the road opened, we got crappy bad-for-us food. I was able to walk around and see everyone else's art, and even bought myself a necklace from the lady in the tent next to mine. (I love shiny things!) It was wonderful- and this is where I met Peter- until I got very, very sick. I had an intestinal blockage, and was trying to go to the porta-potty repeatedly, sweating a cold sweat, cramping miserably, dizzy etc. Sometimes I would have to wait in line at the porta-potty, and couldn't hold myself up. I was so dizzy and in pain I had a hard time finding my way back to my tent. Apparently I was very pale, and nearly passed out afte reach wave of cramps. Someone found a nurse, who called 911 and had me taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Since they had closed the road off for the event, this was a horrible spectacle. I was at the hospital for three days- and somehow my husband was able to pack all my paintings back up and return the U-haul.

Despite this, I am going to try again this year!! I am going to have one tent for Fowler High School students (my daily life is as their high school teacher) and one tent I will share with the other two high school teachers for our personal art. Not sure how that will work, as my paintings are so large, but maybe we will get a hill again! And of course, I wouldn't be on this site at all if I hadn't been there that morning last year!
Crossthreads release partytag:cnycreators.com,2011-03-21:5906932:BlogPost:210012011-03-21T19:36:42.000ZIzzy Duggerhttps://cnycreators.com/profile/IzzyDugger
